Yaskawa America Inc. recently released Yaskawa Compass, a graphical software tool for advanced manufacturing. According to Drives & Motion of Yaskawa America in Waukegan, Illinois. The software package can benefit numerous applications in 3D printing, shape cutting, machine tools and robotics.
Drives & Motion, a part of Yaskawa, manufactures low and medium voltage variable speed drives, servo motors and amplifiers, machine controllers, spindle motors and transmissions, and industrial low voltage switch products. Motoman Robotics, a branch of the firm, manufactures robots that weld, assemble, cut and manipulate items for factories. Yaskawa America employs about 1,000 people across the United States.
With few programming requirements, Compass is built with creativity in mind, allowing machine builders to quickly dial and configure displays to incorporate essential machine parameters and customer needs, ”said Rosemary Burns, segment manager for advanced manufacturing company.
YASKAWA COMPASS OPTIONS
In addition to the MP3300iec motion controller, the CNC’s “browser” offers advanced plug-in solutions that users simply place on their screens, Yaskawa said. Preconfigured plug-ins include extruder, screw, temperature control, step control, rotary and linear tool changer, second path planning, and more. All plug-ins are developed in C #, so machine builders can also simply produce and import their own machine plug-ins, the company said.
Yaskawa Compass also includes the following:
- Landscape or portrait mode;
- Machine configurator;
- Screen configurator;
- Pre-built plugins;
- OEM branding with company colors and graphics;
- Axis configurator;
- Automatic, MDI (manual data entry) and manual mode;
- Emerging NC editor and messaging;
- Alarm history;
- Tool manager;
- Half cycle time measurement tools;
- 2nd viewer with updates to the live transmission control protocol.
Yaskawa has added sophisticated motion control functionality to its IEC MotionWorks library to complement the use of Compass with MPiec controllers. Bed level compensation, extruder pressure advance control, tangential control, and the ability to generate unique G-code and kinematics are just a few of the features.
